About Organisers
Kirtan Scotland is a wellbeing music project that aims to share the practice of Mantras with Music in Scotland since 2009. The Kirtan Scotland band uses an eclectic blend of both traditional and modern instruments and engages eastern and western melodies to form a wide variety from meditative to energetic. Chanting of mantras (called Kirtan) has been practiced for thousands of years by diverse cultures and is now undergoing a renaissance in the west. It is one of the fastest growing forms of meditation in the world. It has been nominated for Grammy awards in 2013 and 2016. People love kirtan because it is fun, it feels good, and brings one into a place of peace, wellbeing and blissful joy. It also promotes community, peace and conscious living. However, more than just music, group chanting is a contemplative practice. The word “mantra” means to free (tra) the mind (mana), and it is one of the easiest and at the same time most efficient methods to use for deep inner cleansing and awakening one to higher states of consciousness, realization and love. There is a growing body of scientific research that proves how effective and powerful mantra meditation is for our wellbeing. Here are just a few examples: * Mantra - powerful way improve your well-being * Kirtan - the easy meditation can improve your brain * Neuroscience and the sanskrit effect
